Trump attacks Maria Elvira Salazar to enforce total obedience

After Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar criticized mass deportations in a campaign ad, Donald Trump used Truth Social to attack her, proving that loyalty to his cruelty outweighs any concern for voters.
The fear in a community does not start with a tweet. It starts with the sound of a door kicking in at five in the morning. According to CNN, ICE took around 51,000 people into custody in August. That is a new high under this second Trump administration. When the state decides to treat neighbors like enemy combatants, the only thing that matters is who signed the check for the handcuffs. Donald Trump treats the border as a playground for cruelty. Maria Elvira Salazar funded the machinery of that cruelty and now acts surprised when it works.
The price of a vote
According to CNN, ICE took more than 46,000 people into custody in July. Rep. Salazar told "Face The Nation" that 50% of those people had no criminal record. She then ran a campaign ad telling the president his enforcement efforts have gone "too far." It is a convenient realization to have during an election year.
Memory is a ledger, and Salazar's ledger is stained. According to miamiherald.com, she voted to pass the legislation. She praised the bill on social media for protecting tips and overtime. She forgot to mention what the bill did to our communities. The Brennan Center for Justice reports through miamiherald.com that this bill turned ICE into the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency. It gave the state record funding increases to detain and deport migrants.
This is the brazen hypocrisy of the modern politician. She helped build the cage. Now she complains that the bars are too cold.
The loyalty test
Donald Trump does not care about the nuance of a district. He cares about the leash. On September 26, CNN reported he reposted at least 14 posts on Truth Social attacking Salazar. One user called her a "back stabber." Another said she wanted "amnesty" for people who crossed the border.
Trump demands total obedience. He does not want representatives; he wants echoes. By calling her "soft on the border," Trump punishes anyone who acknowledges the damage done to families.
Her defenders claim she is trying to bridge a gap. They argue she is a pragmatist pushing the Dignity Act to grant work authorization to millions. They claim she speaks the president's language while protecting her constituents. But pragmatism becomes complicity when you vote for the budget that pays for the raids.
The machinery of the state
Eliott Rodriguez, a candidate for Florida's 27th district, sees the game clearly on CBS News. He argues that Salazar is running away from policies she spent years supporting. Rodriguez comes from the "Keep Them Honest" campaign noted by miamiherald.com. He knows that for the district, these arrests are disappearances.
This current crackdown follows the 1996 Immigration Act. Once you build the machinery of mass deportation, it does not stop just because a congresswoman runs a television ad.
Salazar's late repentance is a political calculation, not a moral awakening. She voted to make ICE the most powerful police force in the land. Now the man who demanded that force is punishing her. The voters of District 27 should not be fooled by a commercial filmed outside the White House. You cannot vote to fund the deportation machine and then claim shock when it runs.
