According to The Korea Herald, Hurricane Marie—a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph—is sitting roughly 1,120 km south-southwest of San Diego. It’s moving northwest at 11 kph, and while it stays offshore, it’s pushing life-threatening surf and rip currents into Southern California and Mexico’s Baja California.
But look wider. The Guardian and G1 Globo both report a rarity that should make every coastal governor sweat: a triple-hurricane stretch. Marie, Karina, and Lowell are all active simultaneously, a phenomenon the region hasn't seen in a decade. While Hawaii declares a state of emergency for Lowell, the people in Baja are left to watch the swells. To the bureaucrats in D.C. or Mexico City, this is a meteorological curiosity. To the fisherman in Ensenada or the hotel worker in Cabo, it’s a threat to the only paycheck they have.
